Payroll software for simpler, more accurate payroll operations.
OnTym's payroll management software keeps salary components, employee salary structures, monthly payroll runs and released payslips in one place. Drafts are calculated from the attendance and leave data already in the platform, and employees download their own payslip PDFs.

What is payroll software?
Payroll software is the system of record for pay. It holds each employee's salary structure, works out earnings and deductions for a period, produces the payslip that goes to the employee, and keeps the resulting run so the numbers can be reviewed later.
Why businesses move away from manual payroll
A monthly salary spreadsheet is rebuilt from scratch every cycle. Attendance and paid leave are copied in from another file, formulas get edited under time pressure, payslips are pasted into a template one employee at a time, and the previous month's basis is overwritten. The work is not the arithmetic — it is the re-keying, the chasing and the reconciling.
What centralised payroll management changes
In OnTym, payroll sits on the same employee directory as attendance management and leave management. Structures are stored once and reused, the draft is calculated from existing records, payslips are generated as PDFs, and each employee retrieves their own copy through the employee self-service portal.
What HR and admin teams can do
Everything below is part of the OnTym payroll module today — component setup, salary structures, monthly runs, payslip generation and register exports.
Salary component catalogue
Define the earnings and deductions your company actually uses, each with a code, label, display order, and flags for taxable and attendance-prorated.
Employee salary structures
Assign per-component amounts to each employee with an effective-from date, so a revision is a new structure rather than an overwrite.
Monthly payroll runs
Pick a month and year, generate the draft, and OnTym calculates earnings, deductions and net pay for every employee with a salary structure.
Attendance-aware calculation
Working days, present days, paid leave, weekly offs, holidays, loss-of-pay and payable days are taken from the attendance and leave records already in OnTym.
Review, approve and release
The draft shows per-employee paid days, LOP, gross, deductions and net alongside run totals. Approving the run releases the payslips.
Payroll register export
Export the month as an XLSX or CSV register with selectable columns covering employee details, attendance metrics and payroll amounts.
The employee payslip experience
Payslips are generated by HR when a payroll run is approved. From that point on, the employee-facing side is self-service.
My Payslips
A dedicated screen listing the payslips released to that employee, with the payroll month, net pay, payslip document number and status.
PDF access
Open or download the payslip PDF directly. Files are served through short-lived signed links rather than public URLs.
Payslip history
Past payslips stay available and can be filtered by year, so an employee can retrieve an older month without emailing HR.
Own record only
Employees see their own payslips and nobody else's. Company-wide payroll views are limited to admin roles.
HR-side versus employee-side, clearly separated
Admins configure payroll settings and components, maintain salary structures, generate and approve runs, regenerate an individual payslip PDF, view every payslip in the company and export the payroll register. Employees do none of that — they see their own released payslips, the net pay figure, the payslip document number and the PDF download. The split is enforced on the server, not just hidden in the interface.
How payroll works in OnTym
Five steps, in the order the product actually performs them.
Set up payroll information
Configure payroll settings — legal entity name, address, PAN, authorised signatory, logo, payslip template and currency — then define your salary components.
Maintain employee salary structures
Give each employee a structure with per-component amounts and an effective-from date, plus payroll profile details such as PAN, UAN, ESIC and bank account for the record.
Generate the payroll draft
Choose the month, generate the run, and review the calculated attendance snapshot, gross earnings, deductions and net pay for every employee.
Approve, release and export
Approve the run to generate and release payslip PDFs, regenerate an individual payslip if something changes, and export the payroll register for finance.
Employees access their payslips
Released payslips appear on each employee's My Payslips screen, where they can view the amount and download the PDF themselves.
Payroll features in OnTym
A deliberately short list — these are the payroll capabilities the product ships, not an industry checklist.
Salary components
A company-level catalogue of earning and deduction components with codes, labels, ordering, taxable and prorate settings.
Salary structures
Per-employee component amounts with effective dates and a monthly figure, kept as a history rather than a single editable row.
Payroll runs
One run per month and year with draft, approved and paid states, plus employee count, total gross and total net payable.
Attendance snapshot
Working days, present days, paid leave, weekly offs, holidays, absent and LOP days, payable days, late logins and early checkouts.
Proration and overtime settings
Components marked as attendance-dependent are prorated on payable days, with a configurable overtime multiplier and standard daily hours.
Payslip PDFs
Branded payslips with your entity details, logo, signatory and footer, earnings and deductions side by side, and net pay in words.
Payslip regeneration
Regenerate an individual payslip PDF after an approved run without rebuilding the entire month.
Payroll register
XLSX or CSV export combining payroll amounts and attendance metrics, with the columns you choose for the month.
Role-based access
Payroll setup, runs and company-wide payslips are restricted to admin roles; employees reach only their own payslips.
Why teams run payroll in OnTym
Payroll is downstream of attendance, leave and the employee record. Running it in the same platform removes the hand-offs between them.
- Payroll setup, runs and payslips stored in one place instead of separate files
- Payroll drafts built from the attendance and leave data already in OnTym
- Payslip PDFs generated by the system rather than assembled by hand each month
- Employees download their own payslips, so fewer requests reach HR
- A reviewable draft before anything is approved and released
- Role-based access, so only admins can configure or run payroll
Payroll software vs manual payroll
Both approaches produce a number. Only one of them keeps the basis, the payslip and the employee's copy in the same record.
| Manual payroll | OnTym payroll |
|---|---|
| Salary sheet rebuilt in a spreadsheet every month | Salary structures stored per employee and reused for each run |
| Attendance and paid leave re-keyed from another file | Attendance snapshot built from the records already in OnTym |
| Payslips written by hand or pasted into a template | Payslip PDFs generated from the run with your entity branding |
| Payslips emailed individually and re-sent when lost | Employees download their own payslips from My Payslips |
| Revisions overwrite the previous salary figures | Each revision is a new structure with its own effective date |
| Payroll files spread across laptops and inboxes | Runs, payslips and register exports kept against one company record |
Who uses OnTym payroll software
Teams that pay salaries every month and want the calculation, the payslip and the employee's copy to come from one place.

Growing companies
Salary structures with effective dates and a per-month run history keep payroll consistent as headcount and revisions increase.
HR and admin teams
Run the whole cycle — components, structures, draft, review, approval, payslips and register export — from one module.

Any team that pays salaries monthly and needs the calculation, the payslip and the employee's copy to agree with each other.
Payroll software questions
What is payroll software?
Payroll software is the system a company uses to work out and record what each employee is paid for a period. It holds the salary structure for every employee, calculates earnings and deductions for the month, produces a payslip for each person, and keeps the resulting payroll record in one place instead of in separate spreadsheets.
How does payroll software work?
In OnTym, an admin first defines the company's salary components and each employee's salary structure. For a chosen month the admin generates a payroll draft: OnTym builds an attendance snapshot for every employee — working days, present days, paid leave, weekly offs, holidays and loss-of-pay days — prorates the salary components that are marked as attendance-dependent, and totals gross earnings, deductions and net pay. The admin reviews the draft, then approves and releases it, which generates a payslip PDF for each employee.
What is payroll management software?
Payroll management software is the same tool described from an operations point of view: it manages the whole monthly payroll cycle rather than just the arithmetic. That means the component catalogue, per-employee salary structures with effective dates, draft and approved payroll runs, released payslips, and an exportable payroll register — all against a single employee directory.
Can employees access their payslips?
Yes. Every employee has a My Payslips screen in their own OnTym workspace. It lists the payslips released to them with the payroll month, the net pay amount, the payslip document number and the status, can be filtered by year, and lets them open or download the payslip PDF. Employees see only their own payslips.
Can payroll information be managed centrally?
Yes. Salary components, employee salary structures with effective dates, payroll settings such as the legal entity name, address, PAN, authorised signatory, logo, payslip template and currency, and every monthly payroll run and released payslip are all stored against the same company record and the same employee directory used for HR, attendance and leave.
How does payroll software help HR teams?
It removes the manual coordination around payday. Attendance and paid leave already sit in OnTym, so the payroll draft is built from that data instead of being re-keyed. Payslips are generated as PDFs rather than assembled by hand, employees download their own copies instead of asking HR, the payroll register can be exported for finance, and access is role-based so only admins can run payroll.
